Mr. Arlington Miller

Arlington Miller was born at Kemps Bay , Andros the fourth son of Mr. Richard "Dick" Miller and Mrs. Marrie Miller. Mr. Miller was educated at the Kemps Bay All Age School and later moved to Nassau where he received private education.

After leaving school Mr. Miller joined the staff of the best ever candy company before joining the Civil Aviation Department in 1948 as the Assistant Air Traffic Controller. After one year and two months Mr. Miller joined the Imperial Lighthouse Department in 1949 and worked his way up to Principle Light Keeper before resigning in 1959 to become a Customs Officer

While at Customs Mr. Miller worked as the Officer in Charged of Centreville Warehouse, Prince George Dock East and West, Kelly's Dock, Union Dock, John Alfred Dock, and the Airport Terminal.

After being elected President of The Bahamas Public Service Union in 1976 he was put in charge of Ticket Tax, Departure Tax and Parcel Post and was promoted to Chief Customs Officer.

Mr. Miller also became President of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Trade Union Congress in 1981. After serving as the President of the B.P.S.U. for 14 years and President of the T.U.C. for 9 years Mr. Miller stepped down and join the Front Line Politics and was nominated by the FNM as the candidate for the St. Michael Constituency hi the 1992 General Election. Although the FNM thought that St. Michael was a PLP safe seat, Mr. Miller pulled within 42 votes of winning.

Mr. Miller later became a Labour Consultant and negotiated many contracts for the Public Corporation including Bahamas air, Batelco, B.E.C., Water &. Sewerage, National Insurance and Nassau Flight Services.

Mr. Miller was appointed a Justice of the Peace J.P. in 1994. He was also honored by the Queen in 1996 when he became an Officer of The Most Excellent Order of The British Empire O.B.E.

Mr. Miller is a member of the Modern Free Masons and serves as Chief Justice of The Forum. He is also a 33° Mason and a past Sovereign Commander of The Imperial Council.

He is a member of Bethel Baptist Church and past President of The Trustee Board and is now serving as Chairman of The Constitution Committee. Mr. Miller is married to the former Iris Levarity and is the Father of 3 daughters, Una Hanna, Aleleia Adderley and Caran Green, 1 son Earl and 4 grandsons - Kareem Hanna, Nathan Adderley, Chaez and Camron Miller
